For the Love of Socks

Socks have been my new favorite project over the last year. They're quick, they're fun and you can do all sorts of patterns.
I've made a couple pairs, but my favorite is a pair called Inlay. (And of course, you can see my own pair at Ravelry.) It's also the first thing I can remember making for myself. I am usually so busy making things for friends' babies that keeping something for myself was such a luxury.
I've made a few things for my own girls, my favorite being the Kina sweater for my littlest one. I used a gorgeous color of deep ocean blue (called Aegean I believe) that looks just beautiful on her.
Right now I'm working on a cardigan for myself Oblique, and another pair of socks, and will soon start another few baby projects for a friend due in a couple of months.
There are plenty of days I've wished I could just open a yarn shop or knit for a living. However, since I have zero business acumen, I think having a business wouldn't be the best option for making a living. Ah well, a gal can dream.

a few fewer UFOs

What have I finished in the last few months? Those fingerless mitts that I swore I'd finished and given away. Nope, they still needed a thumb on the last one. Finished that and gave them to my little sis who has RA *and* poor circulation so her hands are always icy.
Almost done with a pair of socks in a pattern called "Inlay".  These are the first pair I've ever done cuff down and while I didn't mind doing it that way, I prefer toe up. It just gets a slightly better fit. I think I'll start a pair of socks for DH--big yarn and big needles to make some hiking socks. Now to find the perfect yarn...

More new babies

Thankfully, none of them are for me! I'm so glad my friends are accommodating my love of knitting baby things though. I'm making this:
and this (only in a sweet shade of pink to which I will also add some ribbon to match):
for friends having babies any day now.

And I just finished up this:
(this is the actual one I made since I remembered to take a picture before I gave it away this time).
Since I'm not aware of anyone else expecting, I hope I can get back to some of the things I've been working on for myself.

new projects

I finished up the bunny to send to a friend who had a baby back in november. I also did finish those mittens for my baby girl. They went perfectly with her coat and she loves to just wear them around, even in the house.
Started a pair of hand warmers for myself. Fingerless gloves really, but the fingers are one large hole, not individuals, that way I can wear them to type and it won't rub. They're in this really yummy deep aubergine color that I can't wait to finish up.
Also got back and did a few rows on the vest.
What's still in the UFO pile? A sweater, a scarf, a pair of socks. I think that's it right now. Five things on the needles? Yeah, that's about right. Maybe I'll start that hat... :)

Ribbit

Today I frogged a sock. Not because there was a mistake, or I didn't like it or the yarn wasn't right for the project. No, I frogged the sock because the yarn I was using to make it was a perfect match to my toddler's winter coat. I frogged that sock in the cause of mittens for my baby girl. How else was she going to go play in the snow without numbing her adorably chubby little fingers? No, it was for a good cause. And, gee, I guess this means I have to pick out new yarn to make those socks! ;)

New projects for fall

I am really excited about all the new things I'm working on. I'm 95% done with the baby's giraffe. Just needs a tail and horns and mane. (It's those stupid pom-poms; I'm avoiding them.) I'm working on socks using this yarn. And of course, there are about 5 others that I want to make socks from too! Love the self-striping yarn.
I am also working on this vest in the natural colorway.
I have plans for more baby toys soon, too. I have two friends due soon, one in Nov., one in Dec. Both are having their second, both are having boys, both already have daughters, both are friends from school. Love it!
Don't forget to check out my Ravelry page if you want to keep closer tabs on my knitting progress!

new projects

I'm working on, hmm, 4 or 5 things right now, some actively, some stuffed in bags. I've got a chulo on the needles for P, it's almost done. I'm knitting little pants for M, they're just started. I have a dress--that will now be a tunic--also for M, a little more than half done. Socks for me, low priority, and also a sweater for myself, again, low priority. Of course, I have everything logged over at Ravelry. I heart Ravelry!
